After a few of days on Gili Air it soon became obvious that we had found our favourite hangout – mostly because we had been there nearly everyday for the same thing! Terribly adventurous we know!
The restaurant come bar is called Chillout and chilled out it certainly is! You can find Chillout on the main stretch of road to the East of the jetty. It has a BBQ outside, is filled inside with wooden tables, has five or six more laid back cabana style seats facing out to the beach and at around 5/6pm they extend the tables and chairs down onto the beachfront for those who would like to indulge in a little candlelit romance! The other tell tale sign is that it is always, always busy!
Happy Hour here starts at 5pm until 6.30pm and offers 2 for 1 cocktails or 20k for a small Bintang. Grab one of the pillowed recliner seats, if they havent already been snapped up, sip on your chosen drink and watch as the sun slowly disappears behind you and the beautiful views over Lombok slowly fade. Bliss!
In terms of food, Chillout has a huge menu offering a nice mix of local food and some Western favourites and not forgetting the sweet treats. Our absolute favourite was the traditional local dish named Olah Olah – coconut milk, chilli and a mound of local green veg with rice for 35K! The local curries, Nasi Goreng and starter snacks were all also delicious. And, whilst we always try to eat local, after dribbling over everyone else’s pizzas for a few nights we decided we couldn’t resist…we didn’t regret it!
This place is undoubtedly busy day and night for a reason; the setting and views are perfect, music chilled, people relaxed and staff extremely friendly.
