Bubble Baths and Sunset Views; A Night At The Theva Residency, Kandy
The Theva Residency is a 15 room boutique hotel nestled in the hillsides surrounding the buzzing cultural city of Kandy. To get there you take a tuk-tuk up and around the small winding roads from the centre of Kandy but, as you step over the threshold, the stunning views are what makes this place a complete cut above the rest. The Theva Residency is a perfect place to base yourself to enjoy everything Kandy has to offer whilst also indulging in the luxury of peace and quiet. We stayed for a night in the Deluxe Double Room and here’s what we found!
There’s nothing better in our opinion than a room with a view and the rooms at The Theva Residency certainly have that. This is the thing that strikes you as soon as you walk in; the huge floor to ceiling sliding windows and their idyllic views out onto the lush green hillside beyond.
The rooms have a touch of colonial style about them with dark wood furniture and the vast bed centrepiece. This is nicely balanced out, however, by the splashes of colour on the walls and the sleek modern bathroom.
We particularly liked the shower which gave you the sensation that you were showering outside with its pebbled floor and rainfall shower head.
The room is very nicely done but its the little touches here which give it that air of luxury; from robes and slippers to a pretty selection of tea and some complimentary sweet treats left on the bed as you check-in and after turn down service. We mean who doesn’t like lounging in a robe eating chocolate?
Of course, there is one particular feature of some of the rooms at The Theva Residency which make it just to die for and that is the bath…
As soon as we were shown to our room it was the bath that immediately caught our eyes and made us just want to jump right in!
The perfect moment to give it a whirl came as the sun began its descent behind the hills and treetops casting gold and pinky hues across the room. We ran the bath as quickly as possible, finally finding the special button to make all those bubbles bubble, and hopped in. There’s no denying it – it was pretty special!
Not only do you get the luxury of a jacuzzi bubble bath but you get to enjoy it with the breeze drifting through the wide open windows, the view of the sun setting and the peaceful sounds of the birds. We never wanted to get out and we are sure this feature is what makes any stay The Theva Residency both special and memorable.
The Bedroom is not the only place to enjoy the stunning views that The Theva Residency affords but head down to the pool and you’ll be greeted with another place to take a heavenly dip! The infinity pool pans out into the hillside giving you a 180 degree view all around. Plus as it gets the sun for the majority of the day its a fantastic place to relax and soak up the sun after a morning of sightseeing – you really wouldn’t know that one of Sri Lanka’s busiest cities is just down the road!
As well as the pool The Theva Residency offers a sauna and steam facilities to leave you feeling completely pampered and rejuvinated.
Breakfast is without a doubt our favourite meal of the day and breakfast at The Theva Residency certainly didn’t disappoint!
To begin we were served a funky plate of fresh fruits scattered with pomegranate seeds. Then came the basket of warm croissants, sultana rolls and toast accompanied by some of the best homemade marmalade and pineapple jam we have ever tasted. All that being said we were already pretty full by the time our ‘main’ dishes were served.
I had the baked eggs with spinach which came served on crispy hash browns and Josh, of course, indulged in the breakfast burrito – getting his fix of bacon, sausage and egg! All of this was washed down with a big pot of our favourite Sri Lankan tea and a mango smoothie. Fair to say this was breakfast heaven!
*A Sri Lankan breakfast is also available you must just confirm this the night before to allow for preparation.
The Theva Residency is overall a fantastic place to unwind; we spent most of the day just lounging around the pool and in our room – sipping cups of peppermint and rosebud tea and gazing out at the hazy afternoon views.
In true Sri Lankan style the staff here are so friendly and couldn’t have made us feel more at home. The setting of The Theva Residency is wonderful; close enough to the city of Kandy to enjoy all of its culture and sights but far enough away that you can still find some relaxation time and live a little in the lap of luxury.
We would definitely recommend The Theva Residency for couples or friends looking for that somewhere a little unique to stay where you will most definitely come away feeling rested and relaxed.
